How to Run Your Real Estate Business in 2024

This week, as I led the first round of coaching calls for the year, one thing was very clear to me…

This moment really is a golden opportunity to decide how you want to do business this year.

If you don’t make a conscious choice to do something different, you will keep doing what you’ve always done…

And how has that been working for you so far?

The logic of this is brutally clear. Just look at where you are now. If it’s not where you want to be, you need to do something different.

This is NOT easy. As human beings we like to choose comfort, certainty, and control. We like to keep doing the things that are familiar, even if they’re not the right things.

It may sound dogmatic to say that there are right and wrong things to do in this business…

But it’s just the truth.

There’s a reason I harp on and on about the 6 building blocks…because 31 years in this business has shown me that they are the things that work best—the actions that give you the greatest chance for success.

If you want to build a sustainable, scalable, stress-free real estate business (not one that burns you out), these are the RIGHT things to do.

1️⃣ Start with a Mindset of Harmony.

You are who you are…

What is, is…

And what will be, will be.

Nothing is personal, and everything is temporary.

You are okay now, and you will be okay no matter what happens next.

This is the mindset for doing business without stress, from a place of service instead of desire and need. This is where it all begins.

2️⃣ Take control of your calendar with Time Blocking.

Time blocking is about working from a sense of priority.

Not everything matters equally.

The most important thing is the most important thing to get done, and your calendar must reflect that.

Without this simple concept, you will never make time to do the tasks that contribute the most to growing your business.

3️⃣ Nurture your pipeline with CRM.

This is your most powerful business building tool, bar none.

But what would I see if I opened your CRM right now?

Probably something closer to a dumping ground than an effective tool.

4️⃣ Streamline your operations with Process Management.

Mastering process is the key to delivering an outstanding client experience AND reclaiming control over your life.

It’s ALSO the key to building a business that’s worth something when you retire.

Without process, your last deal will be your last paycheck, and your last paycheck will not be enough.

Is that how you want your career to end?

5️⃣ Become a trusted advisor with Tactical Empathy.

Why spend all your time chasing and convincing people…

When you could be serving people who trust you and WANT to work with you?

Tactical Empathy is the skill that allows you to find those people and keep them coming back to you over and over.

It’s what transforms you from a commodity into a trusted advisor.

6️⃣ Make strategic decisions by Knowing Your Numbers.

If you audit where your business comes from, you’ll probably find that more than half comes from people you already know and have done business with…

And yet you continue to spend most of your time and effort chasing after people you don’t know.

How does that make sense?

This is just one of MANY strategic mistakes agents make all the time because they don’t know their numbers. That’s what happens when you make decisions based on fear instead of fact.

It’s the beginning of a brand new year. If you’re ever going to choose to do things differently, NOW is the time.

Continue to choose comfort, certainty, and control…and you will keep doing what you’ve been doing.

You will keep telling yourself that if you just sell more, it will all work out.

That’s a lie.

Selling more will NOT give you a sustainable, scalable, stress-free business.

It will NOT save you from having your last deal be your last paycheck.

Only the 6 building blocks will do that.
